Beauty of Mathematics

Unlocking Understanding

Learning isn’t always easy in the classroom. Some students need more attention and an individually tailored approach. This is where I can help. I love working with middle school, high school, and college students one-on-one (on-site or virtually) to help find their key that unlocks math comprehension.

Work with me

As a student, I too found math difficult to understand at first until I discovered a process that I could relate to. Once I found the key that unlocked my understanding, I was able to expand on this process as my learning expanded to courses on multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and even graduate level statistics from the University of Chicago.

With your student, my goal is to create a customized process of learning to unlock their potential so that they can succeed in this subject matter. While my specialties are algebra, statistics, and calculus, I am willing to tutor any subject and if it isn’t listed here, please feel free to email me a message discussing your course and what book you are using and I will get back to you shortly.

The bottom line is that you need a tutor that gets it, who understands that math can be difficult and can act like a translator for your student. As a parent, you may feel overwhelmed or afraid that you can’t help your kid to understand his math homework. This is where I can step in; from high school algebra to college statistics, I can act like a translator to transform something scary into something accessible by tailoring each lesson to your child’s individual learning style.

Algebra and More

Generally speaking, pre-algebra is taught around 8th grade and algebra follows the next year. This varies by student. Some may take advanced classes. Algebra is one of my favorite areas of math and I would love to help your child understand how to process these types of equations better. I can also address other high school courses such as geometry, algebra 2, trigonometry, and pre-calculus.

Statistics

Of the over two million college degrees that are earned in the U.S. every year, it has been estimated that two-thirds require completion of a statistics class. This means that over a million and a half students taking are either taking Statistics 101 or need to take it. Statistics classes address concepts such as probability, frequency distributions, graphing and correlations, and more. This is my favorite subject to teach and I can tutor at the college and graduate level. I was a psychology major and I loved stats and methodology, so I’m comfortable and confident in teaching this scientific method.

Calculus

Few subjects bring the look of fear to the eyes of most students quite like Calculus. While Calculus in Latin means, “small pebble,” to many this “pebble” is the Mt. Everest of the math world. As a professional tutor, I’ve studied this subject extensively because it’s not only my best subject, but one that truly I enjoy. I took AP Calculus in High School and passed the AP test so I can help others reach this goal, too. I’ve also taken several different calculus courses including a course in multivariable calculus. I know this topic well which is one of my greatest tools to helping students to either pass a high school AP exam or to pass this class to bulk up a college transcript.

Work with Me

In Portland:

I live in the Portland area and would love to meet with you face-to-face if you are local. If your students prefers a quiet place with minimal distractions, we can meet in my home. If you would prefer a public space, I’d be happy to meet you at a Starbucks or a location of your choice.

On Skype:

For those who aren’t local, I can work with anyone from any location in the US and my hours are flexible to suit your schedule. I also have prepared a variety of teaching aids to incorporate into our lessons to promote understanding

With a Customized Video:

If your student is shy, embarrassed, or understands most of their work but gets stumped every now and then, I’m willing to create a customized video just for your child. If you provide me with a specific problem or concept, I’ll work out an explanation and film it as a video that I would then post to Youtube.

Contact Me Today!

If you are looking for a tutor for your student, I would love to help them! I love math and I love students. My fee is $30 per hour for any of the above services (which is cheaper and easier then repeating the class!).
